As a company that operates in the public right-of-way, we understand our product’s impact extends beyond the people that rely on our service. In anticipation of the upcoming e-scooter program in New York City, we developed community feedback sessions to learn how our service can best support the needs of boroughs like Brooklyn.

We kicked this off last weekend by partnering with Brooklyn Plaza Medical Center, Brooklyn Voters Alliance, Fab Fulton, and Street Lab to host an event for people of all ages. Children played with Street Lab’s contact-free obstacle course, while adults learned more about voting, our service, prospective jobs at Spin, and were even fitted for free helmets.

“What’s unique about Spin as a company is that we are focused on creating long-lasting relationships with communities to meet shared goals. These deep partnerships have allowed us to become the most reliable and trusted partner to markets across the country,” said Shannon Dulaney, Senior Community Partnerships Manager at Spin. “We hold sessions like this to better integrate our service into cities. Without community input, an operator can’t fully comprehend the needs of the people they are servicing.”

The event also gave community members an opportunity to test out the e-scooters and learn more about appropriate safety protocols prior to launch. In the time of COVID-19, that includes wearing a mask and using hand sanitizer, which was also given out at the event.

While this was the first Spin event at which attendees could test drive a scooter, Spin has been a behind-the-scenes sponsor of PLAY NYC since July and has been distributing helmets, masks, and other Spin gear at Street Lab-hosted events, like this one shown on 34th Avenue in Queens. So far, we have distributed more than 50 helmets, with plans to distribute another 100 in the weeks to come.

In the coming weeks, we look forward to hosting more events, further establishing relationships with community partners, and hopefully servicing New York City next March.
